Though Connecticut employers and residents pay billions each year for coverage, Connecticut now spends $572 million on direct health care costs for the uninsured.  Research conducted by the Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut shows that to cover every uninsured resident in Connecticut would cost less than we now pay in direct and indirect costs. Universal health care is more affordable than our current system.

The Problem
About 1 in 10 Connecticut residents is uninsured.

Others are just a paycheck away. Losing a job, graduating from college, changing marital status, or suffering a major accident or illness could leave any of us without the coverage we need.

Health-related bankruptcies have become a reality among the insured. Premiums are rising four times as fast as wages. Small businesses can’t cover their employees. Doctors and hospitals can’t absorb any more “free” care.

We can’t afford to get sick.

The Solution – Universal Health Care:
Get more for less.

Everyone knows that universal health care – a system that leaves no one out – would be better for families, children, and anyone who depends on insurance. What most people don’t know is that universal care would save all of us money.

Connecticut now spends $572 million on direct health care costs for the uninsured.  Research conducted by the Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut shows that to cover every uninsured resident in Connecticut would cost less than we now pay in direct and indirect costs.  Universal health care is more affordable than our current system.

Why is Universal Health Care important?
We all pay for inefficiency and uninsurance. In fact, when you factor in the real costs – lost productivity at work, higher charges for services, increased reliance on taxpayer-funded programs – the lack of good health coverage costs Connecticut up to $1.3 billion per year.

In Connecticut health insurance costs are rising so much faster than wages that in five years, families that earn just above the amount that would qualify them for public assistance would have to spend half their income on health care.

Let's make Connecticut competitive.
Let’s get Connecticut covered
