Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut works on state and national levels to ensure progressive health care reform policies that meet the needs of individuals and small employers in Connecticut.
Federal health care reform, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), and state health reform, overseen by the SustiNet Health Care Cabinet and the Office of Health Reform and Innovation, seek similar, overlapping results:
Improve access to health care and health insurance cove rage (Access)
Bend the health care cost curve, to ease the burden on government budgets and residents’ pocketbooks (Lower Cost)
Improve the care delivered by the health care system so that it is efficient, effective, safe, timely, patient-centered, equitable and produces better health outcomes (Better Care)
Improve the overall health of the population (Better Health)
The ACA represents a big leap forward, with many residents already benefiting from its changes.
The new consumer-friendly , state health insurance marketplace, Access Health CT, will make health insurance more affordable for many consumers by offering up-front discounts to help pay for health insurance coverage. Still, much more must be done if our state is to control costs, ensure quality care and build a better future for us all. As a catalyst committed to transforming the health care system, we believe informed and empowered individuals and communities possess the power to lead the way.
